Describe your music in 3 words
Melancholic. Authentic. Honest
Tell us about the new track ‘Campfire’
'Campfire' is my second single. I wrote it in my bedroom during the pandemic on guitar but was able to bring it to life with bass and drums when I recorded it in a North London studio a few months ago. It is a summery indie rock track about staying true to yourself and not letting anybody change you.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
I'm a big fan of bands like Oasis, The Smiths and The Beatles as well as more modern indie bands for example The 1975 and Wolf Alice. I'm also inspired by successful solo singer-songwriters like Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift who got me into writing songs in the first place.
When did you start songwriting?
I started songwriting when I was about 14. As soon as I learnt to play guitar from YouTube tutorials, I began to write songs. I had always written short stories and things like that as well as singing. To be able to put those two together was really exciting.
You’ve been playing around London recently, what has been the highlight?
I go all over London doing open mics but I especially love Camden. I played at the open mic at the iconic venue The Dublin Castle not too long ago which was incredible. So many of my heroes, for example Amy Winehouse have performed there.
Do you remember your first gig experience?
Yes! It was at The Golden Cross in Twyford, one of my local pubs. I remember being really nervous and shaking throughout the whole performance but I made it through and found I enjoyed it towards the end.
At present you are playing solo, do you plan to expand the live show into a band dynamic?
That's the dream. I'd love to play with a band as that's how I envision the songs when I am writing them. Hopefully I can make that happen within the next year.
When can we catch you live?
I don't have any particular dates at the moment but if you'd like to come and see one of my gigs, follow me on social media @frankiembird for updates.
